Have a good look at what is happening in your school, talk to the Teachers and School Council, if there is one. Here are some tips that could save your school money and help the environment:
Get your school to send less paper home and more emails if the parents are online.
Make sure everyone photocopies on both sides of the paper.
Do not throw paper away, recycle it. Any paper which has not be used on both sides can be put in a box and used for scrap paper for drawing or art.
Think about what is in your lunch box. See if you can buy more from your local shop instead of the big supermarket. Lots of our small shops will close down eventually, unless they have more customers.
See if you can grow some vegetables at school, they taste much nicer than the ones you buy!
Have your own school garden and bird table to encourage birds and wildlife.
Bring back the nature table! When your parents were at school, we had a table where we could bring in natural things and ?show and tell? everyone about them. (I used to enjoy it!)
Think about how you and your friends travel to school. Some schools have a ?walking bus? where lots of children walk to school with an adult. This saves petrol and is safer as schools worry about the number of cars outside looking for parking spaces and turning round to rush off to work.
