Fight for your Green rights!

It's funny how you can be merrily trundling along and then...bang...like a stone hitting your windscreen, something can hit you and the cracks rapidly spread. This is how the year has been so far for One Green Island, here on the Isle of Wight!

Like a bolt from above, Isle of Wight Council unleashed a plan for School Reorganisation in January this year which would wipe our fantastic village school, rated 'good/outstanding' by Ofsted, off the map completely. The school is currently destined to be closed permanently in 2010. Currently 90% of the children walk to school, in future they will have to travel by bus or, more likely, be driven to school. Our council wants the Isle of Wight to become an 'Eco Island' with a zero carbon footprint by 2012. The education reforms seem to contradict this ethos.

We intended to develop this website far more than we have done and we apologise BUT we have gained worrying but invaluable experience of how politicians operate and many of us on the Isle of Wight are prepared to lock horns with our council and to fight for what we believe is right. Unfortunately, not everyone wants to get involved and many people appear apathetic. Our simple message for this month is to stand up for what you think is right, contact your council and argue the case for a greener lifestyle, village schools, local shops and Post Offices, recycling, better Public Transport...the list goes on!

We will let you know the outcome of our struggle!
